Moroccan Watermelon Cooler
Temperatures are skyrocketing this summer. The Northwestern heatwave has us all trying to beat the heat in every way possible. This refreshing, thirst-quenching summer beverage has instantly become our new favorite. Our Moroccan Mint is a combination of peppermint and Gunpowder green tea — and tastes incredible as the base in this cooler. Hydrating watermelon, fresh cucumber, and tart lemon complement the tea perfectly. Add a splash (or two) of vodka and you've got a delicious, rejuvenating drink. Cheers to keeping cool!
Learn moreMadras Curry Potato Salad
30 min
Potato salad is such a ubiquitous summer dish. This recipe really brightens things up and breathes new life into potato salad. Its beautiful yellow color comes from our popular Madras South Indian Curry. The curry gives the salad incredible flavor alongside mustard, black pepper, cumin, and turmeric. Madras is a classic curry that will taste familiar and go great with the beloved potato. Fresh peas and crunchy bell peppers give the salad great texture. We used small Yukon potatoes so no peeling and little chopping is involved. This dish comes together with ease. Our dressing is kept light using half Greek yogurt for tang, rather than just straight mayo. Try making this for a lovely twist on a picnic classic or make it the star of a lettuce wrap!
Learn moreCold Brewed Iced Tea
With the heat of summer well on its way, we look to our favorite things to keep us cool. One of the best ways to beat the heat is by sipping on cold brew tea. Cold brewing has several advantages over the traditional hot water steeping. For one, it's incredibly easy to do. The low temperature also prevents tannins from developing and giving unwanted bitterness in the tea. Another benefit is that cold brewing preserves a higher amount of vitamin C while extracting less caffeine — making for a refreshing beverage to give a steady boost of energy without a caffeine crash. We advise steeping black tea leaves overnight or for 4 hours if using a green tea. Here we used Keemun black tea, commonly used to make other favorites like English and Irish Breakfast Teas. This tea is malty and rich, tasty on its own, and strong enough to stand up to additions like lemonade or fruit.
Learn moreRanch Broccoli Salad
Ranch Seasoning is a summer favorite, and whether you like it as a dressing or a dipping sauce best, there is no substitute. In this salad, we chopped the classic crudité and dressed it with an easy DIY ranch dressing with buttermilk and mayonnaise. Bacon bits and crispy onions add an extra layer of flavor to take this salad over the top. A perfect salad to whip up for picnics and cookouts, it is a great summer go-to salad with plenty of hearty veggie crunch. Our Ranch Seasoning is salt and preservative free so you can adjust salt to taste and add as much of this bright and tangy seasoning as you like.
Learn moreLavender Blueberry Handpies
Turnovers, or hand pies, are great for a picnic dessert or breakfast pastry. These delicious pocket pies, stuffed with fruity filling, offer creative bakers a great opportunity to showcase striking flavor combinations. For these we chose blueberry and lavender. Because there is no cutting or pre-cooking involved, blueberries are our go-to fruit for making hand pies. Here, we simply tossed them in brown sugar and lavender to make a jammy floral filling. For a bit of decadence, there's cream cheese and lemon to make the rest of the flavors pop. The soft floral notes of lavender are the perfect complement to blueberries and are a wonderful flavor for spring, but it is easy to over-do. Try a little bit of the filling during prep and gauge how strong the lavender flavor is and adjust to taste.
Learn moreChinese Five Spice Fudge Pops
Make these fun and flavorful fudge-pops for any occasion, they are a festive treat! Chinese Five Spice is sweet with fennel and star anise and sassy with cloves and Sichuan pepper. Cinnamon is the fifth ingredient and when you bring it all together with dark chocolate it's a match made in heaven. The base comes together easily on the stovetop and we used small paper cups for the molds. You can decorate with toasted sesame seeds and gold luster dust like we did, but there are so many options! Try chopped peanuts, sprinkles or toasted coconut. Tiny but mighty in flavor, these creamy pops will satisfy your sweet tooth and are fun to make.
Learn moreVanilla Bean Cashew Cream
With all sorts of fruits and berries in season, it's a time of year when we've often found ourselves looking for new recipes to take advantage of a bountiful summer harvest. Looking for a break from pies and other baked goodies, we decided to try out a rich vanilla cream to complement a variety of fresh fruit. After making it once, we wondered where it had been all our lives. The fresh Madagascar 3 Count Vanilla Bean is the star of the show in this elegant vegan topping. There's no added sugar, because we found it wasn't needed! The dates in the cream provide plenty of sweetness, and a rich, caramel-like aftertaste. Consider carefully before making this recipe, because this stuff is addictive! One taste, and you'll want it on every fruit in sight.
Learn moreFloral Sonnets Martini
Enjoy an ice cold sip of summer! This tantalizing martini is made with a splash of our Floral Sonnets tea, which gives it amazing color and taste. This tea blend features chamomile, honeybush, ginger, cinnamon, lavender, and damiana. Together, the flowers and herbs accentuate the botanical flavors in the gin, and the result is to die for.To pair with the gin and tea, we used Lillet rosé in place of the usual dry vermouth. For a finishing touch, we also added a bit of limoncello to add a bit of citrus-y sweetness. This martini is refreshing and tastes as lovely as it sounds.
Learn moreWhipped Dirty Chai
In the heat of summer, everything's better on ice. For a cold afternoon pick-me-up, we decided to try out the trendy whipped Dalgona-style coffee... with a couple spicy additions, of course! We added Cassia Vietnamese Cinnamon to the coffee powder, and swapped in coconut milk in place of the usual dairy. For the finishing touch, we made some sweetened ice cubes with our Classic Chai. The spiced ice adds another level of flavor as it melts, so your drink will never get watered down!
